Students at St. Johnsbury Academy got an unexpected abbreviated school day due to a ‘technical glitch’ with the Streeter Hall fire alarm

Students at St. Johnsbury Academy got an unexpected abbreviated school day due to a ‘technical glitch’ with the Streeter Hall fire alarm. “We dismissed today at 11:50 because of a technical glitch with our fire safety system in Streeter Hall,” noted Headmaster Dr. Sharon Howell in an email to families of Academy students. “Everyone is safe, and most are delighted to be out in this beautiful sunny day.” It was supposed to be a routine fire drill Wednesday morning. St. Johnsbury firefighters were on scene for the drill, but when the test alarm was initiated, it couldn’t be silenced, said Chief Brad Reed. Power to the alarm system was shut off until the problem could be fixed. With the alarm system off-line, officials made the decision to end the school day.
